XXXTentacion’s mother accepted her late son’s prize at the 2018 American Music Awards.

On Tuesday night (October 9), the departed rapper, who was tragically gunned down in Deerfield Beach, Florida over the summer, claimed the Favorite Soul/R&B Album honor for the music he left in his wake.

His mother, Cleopatra Bernard, accepted her son’s award on his behalf and gave a heart-wrenching speech in his honor. "I'm so nervous you guys," Bernard said. "I am honored to accept this award on behalf of my son. I would like to thank the AMAs, his fans and to everyone that made this possible. Thank you guys so much, I appreciate it.”

The post-humous win would have been XXX's first AMA. He was also nominated for New Artist of The Year at the event.

XXX’s first AMA win comes months after the “SAD!” star was fatally shot in his vehicle while leaving a motorsports store in his home state on June 18, 2018. The emcee, née Jahseh Onfroy, was subsequently pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital following the shooting. He was 20.

In light of the tragedy, XXX’s suspects in connection with his death — Robert Allen, Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams, and Trayvon Newsome — remain in custody on charges of murder.

The Floridian superstar released his debut album, 17, last August. Most recently, the MC appeared on Lil Wayne's latest album, Tha Carter V.

On September 28, graphic surveillance footage capturing XXX’s murder was released in court.
