Gabrielle Union Confirms 'Bring It On' Sequel Is 'Absolutely' Happening

There must be some Clovers in the atmosphere! Gabrielle Union just confirmed a Bring It On sequel is coming!

The actress broke the official news during a recent guest appearance on James Corden’s The Late Late Show, and revealed she and her co-stars have been in talks about filming a sequel to the beloved 2000s cheerleading film. As Union explained, she and her fellow cast mates — including OG stars Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Bradford, and Eliza Dushku — held a public panel a few weeks ago, and the original cast agreed when asked about returning for a sequel.

“It’s absolutely going to happen," Union told Corden via video chat."I think its because we all got obsessed with Cheer on Netflix and it kind of like brought back the whole love of cheerleading, and we kinda want to see where these people would be 20 years later.”

Released in 2000, Bring It On saw Dunst and Union portray cheer captains from rivaling backgrounds who must lead their squads to victory in cheerleading competitions. The film, which touched on matters like racial and economic inequality, is still regarded a cult classic today.

Apart from spawning six installments — including Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006) starring Solange and Hayden Panettiere, and the latest film, Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack (2017) — the romcom has been referenced in pop culture myriad times over the years. In 2018, Ariana Grande paid homage to the movie in her iconic “Thank U, Next” music video.

If this news proves true, this will be the first Bring It On sequel to feature the original cast — so keep your pom-poms crossed, everyone!
