Tyla Gets Royal Treatment During Jaw-Dropping Met Gala Debut

Tyla understood the assignment during her Met Gala debut.

On Monday evening, May 6, the South African singer hit the red carpet in a stunning brown Balmain gown with an hourglass in hand. The skin-tight dress makes her look like she's covered in sand with a sandy train following behind her. Keeping with the "Garden of Time" dress code, Tyla's look was inspired by the "Sands of Time." The dress was so compact that she could barely walk up the steps. In videos posted to social media, you can see her get help from a man who carried up up the steps each time she had to move.

Tyla's first time at the Met Gala comes a couple of months after she dropped her debut, self-titled album. Her first studio LP holds stand-out tracks like "Truth or Dare," "ART" and her smash hit "Water" along with the remix featuring Travis Scott. Scott's not the only major to make an appearance on the project. Tems comes through on the song "No. 1" and latin sensation Becky G lends a hand for "On My Body." Gunna, Skillibeng and Kelvin Momo also appear on the album.

"Everything that’s happening has surpassed anything I could have dreamt of," Tyla said when she announced her album back in November. "African music is going global and I’m so blessed to be one of the artists pushing the culture. I’ve been working on my sound for 2 years now and I’m so ready for the world to hear it. I cannot wait for the world to experience an African Popstar."
