Keke Palmer is opening up about her "unhealthy" relationship with her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Palmer revealed new details about her new book "Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative," where she gets candid about her relationship woes with Jackson, with who she shares son Leo.

"It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through," Palmer writes her book, per the outlet.

The actress reflected on the beginning of her relationship with Jackson.

“It was like, not only is this the person, but this is the time. It felt very spiritual for Darius and I,” Palmer said. “We had separate lonelinesses, and we created a space for us to exist in that loneliness together. And then we wanted to have a son. Leo was very planned.”

The couple was thrust into the spotlight after Jackson took to social media to criticize a dress Palmer wore to an Usher concert.

“It’s the outfit tho . . . you a mom,” Jackson tweeted at the time, prompting widespread outrage and defense of Palmer.

Prior to the viral tweet, Palmer writes in her book that the relationship had already grown "unhappy and unhealthy."

“There was a lot going on,” she said, noting that the relationship had turned violent.

Palmer requested a temporary restraining order in November 2023, alleging multiple instances of domestic violence, including a time when she said Jackson broke into her home and attempted to strangle her. Jackson responded in court, accusing Palmer of abusing him. The two also clashed over custody of Leo.

“It got so out of control,” Palmer said. “The only way I knew how to bring order was through the court.”

Palmer noted that "having a baby was a big stressor" as well as fame.

Months later, the former couple settled amicably on a joint custody agreement.

“I wish I could say he was terrible the entire time or that I was ... but it wasn’t that black-and-white and that was the problem," Palmer writes in her book. “I didn’t want my son to think his father is a monster, because I don’t."

The Nope star said she's found forgiveness and peace.

“I feel very at ease now knowing things are under control,” she said.

Palmer's book, "Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative," is out November 19.
