One of Young Thug's codefendants has reached a plea deal with prosecutors during the long-running YSL RICO trial.
According to a report The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published on Tuesday, October 29, Quamarvious Nichols pleaded guilty to one count of violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering laws and numerous murder and weapons charges dropped. The 29-year-old was previously facing life in sentence, however, Judge Paige Whitaker instead gave him 20 years. Nichols will only serve seven years behind bars and 13 years of probation. He also received credit for the two years he spent in jail since his arrest in 2022.
“Stay out of all kinds of criminal trouble,” Whitaker told Nichols in court. “Make this a birthday present to yourself, to your wife and your family, that you will leave from here today and leave whatever you used to do behind you.”
Following Nichols' plea deal, only four codefendants will remain in the trial along with Young Thug. When the indictment came down in May 2022, the Young Stoner Life co-founder, his artist Gunna, his brother Unfoonk and 25 others were arrested and charged with allegedly violating Georgia's RICO Act. Since then, Wunna and several others have been released from custody after they accepted plea deals.
Young Thug and his codefendants have been behind bars since they were arrested two years ago. It took 10 months to secure a functional jury before the trial began last November. Over the past year, the trial, which is now the longest-running criminal case in Georgia's history, has been run by a total of three judges and has heard from dozens of witnesses. There have been various motions for a mistrial, including one instance last week. Judge Whitaker said she wouldn't grant a full mistrial with prejudice, however, she did mention her option to declare a mistrial without prejudice.
