Sheff G has officially started his prison bid just months after he pleaded guilty to gang conspiracy charges.
The New York native reported to a courthouse in Brooklyn on Wednesday morning, October 1, to begin his five-year sentence. Sheff G, born Michael Williams, was one of 32 alleged members of the "8-Trey Crips" and "9 Ways Gang" who were included in a 140-count murder conspiracy case in 2023. According to Fox 5, Williams was arrested but later released after he posted a $1.5 million cash bail. In between the rapper's array of tour dates, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun said Williams fulfilled all his court requirements throughout the last 18 months of his parole.
Prosecutors alleged Williams was the ringleader who ordered violent crimes against rival gang members, including shootings that injured 13 victims and killed one. In March, Williams pleaded guilty to several counts of second-degree attempted murder plus second-degree and fourth-degree conspiracy. Prosecutors originally pushed for Williams to serve 20 years behind bars. However, since the drill rapper did not actually pull the trigger during any of the alleged shootings, Judge Chun sentenced him to five years in prison and five years of supervised release.
The 25-year-old rapper was surrounded by his family, girlfriend, and friends as he made his way to the courthouse. He had just wrapped up an 18-city tour alongside fellow New York rapper Sleepy Hallow, who was also arrested in the conspiracy case. Williams will report to Riker's Island before he's transported to a prison in upstate New York. In an interview before he started his prison sentence, Williams pledged to leave the street life behind him.
"We're doing everything you're supposed to do," Williams said. "I want the kids and I want the youth to see the growth and the development of me and my label, with all my peers around me, and get my story out to the world."
